Metro Atlantans Line Up to Get Tickets for Barack Obama Visit
Saturday, July 5, 2008 Labels: Whats Going On? 0 commentsATLANTA (MyFOX Atlanta) – Large crowds spent much of Saturday waiting in line to get tickets to see presumptive Democratic nominee, Senator Barack Obama. There was a level excitement in Powder Springs and Smyrna Saturday morning that is normally associated with a crowd waiting to get coveted tickets for a rock concert. In this case, the tickets were for Barack Obama's upcoming visit.
"I'm expecting him to bring the boys home as soon as he can from the war and I know he'll do that, and he'll do things for our children, for the future," said Cobb County resident Helen Green. Some people waited for as long as two hours in line to sign up to see the presumptive Democratic nominee in a town hall forum at McEachern High School Tuesday."Everyone here may not be an Obama supporter but they want to see what he brings to the table, what is he going to talk about that's going to impact my family here in Powder Springs," said Lisa Murray.
That may be what Senator Obama is counting on as he targets voters in the southern states."If we're only one down in Georgia, if we're within the margin of error in North Carolina, if we're actually up some in Virginia, it would be foolish of us not to campaign there," said Obama.Obama's ability to draw crowds in the south was demonstrated last year when thousands gathered at Georgia Tech to see the Illinois senator.Georgia's GOP chairperson, Sue Everhart, acknowledged that the Democrats have a lot of enthusiasm for their nominee.Everhart said Obama has made the right moves in the state, but she also said Republican candidate Senator John McCain had too.
